UK born artist, Dinah Wakefield has had a lifelong passion for art and design, beginning her career as a textile designer and stylist, before establishing herself as an abstract artist. Dinah lived and worked as an artist in Sydney for over 20 years, developing a reputation for her dramatic abstract landscapes. In 2016 she moved to Noosa, establishing her studio in the garden of her new home. Dinah draws inspiration from the landscape around her, focusing on an abstract expression of colour and form. Her latest works continue the theme of abstract landscapes: they are inspired by the natural beauty of the area and are fluid and organic creating a sense of peace, tranquility and space.
“I have been painting for over 25 years and for me painting is an essential part of who I am. It is an instinctual process of creativity and expression. Each painting is a reference point for what I am experiencing in my life, just like keeping a diary. All my life I have been fascinated by the light within. That essential essence that exists under the surface of our everyday reality. We don’t talk about it, but we all know it’s there. We can sense it. It is this light within that I seek to capture in my paintings.”
- Dinah Wakefield
Dinah’s paintings reference the stunning landscape of Australia and the Noosa region - not the literal landscape that one sees, but rather her emotional connection she feels in response to the landscape. Dinah studies the interplay of light that is unique to the region and takes every opportunity to make this connection with nature and capture it on canvas. She does not plan her paintings, instead letting them unfold and expresses itself in its own unique way. Dinah allows the paint brush to be her guide, flowing and undulating across the canvas in a fluid and organic way.
Dinah has exhibited her works widely across Australia and the UK, and received international and large corporate commissions for numerous companies including Crown Casino and Collins Square.
